Who am I and what is this blog all about?

I am a father of a six year old and a four year old.  We live in the Washington, DC area and one of our favorite pastimes is visiting the many playgrounds that are in our neighborhood.  We have our favorites, but this summer my plan is to visit as many new playgrounds as possible.

There are so many playgrounds out there - some great, some not so great - that I thought it would be useful to share some information about the parks we visited and what we found.

Information I'll Include:
  • Location - obviously you need to know how to get there!  I'll give you the address as well as a box to type in your zip code and get directions via Google Maps.
  • Features - a basic list of what there is to play on and what ages the playground might be best for
  • What's Unique - most playgrounds have the same basic stuff, some clearly made by the same manufacture with similar colors, styles, etc.  What I'm looking for is the stuff that makes a playground unique - otherwise we'd just stick with one playground and never go anywhere else.  So I'll list anything that stands out, stuff that my kids gravitiated to, something cool that would make us revisit a particular playground.
  • Restrooms - this one's a no brainer... how many times have you gotten to a playground, had a little one announce they needed the potty, and then discovered there was none to be found.  I'll let you know if there's one close by.
  • Sun/Shade - this one's pretty important if you've got to decide whether to bring sunscreen and sun hat, or long pants and a sweater - and the sun beating down on a playground all day can make a big difference.  Are there trees?  Is there a shelter?  Is there sun in the morning or late afternoon?  I'll try to give you the scoop.
  • Nearby - after a big day at the playground, it helps to know where the closest restaurant to grocery store is.
